1852 SC “Bern 22 Sep 52 D.R.” to Prescott, CW, red “Suisse 24 Sept 52 2 St. Louis 2”, “Paid DR 24 SP 25 1852”, “L SP 25 C”, and “PD” carried by Cinard “Asia” (20th voyage) from Liverpool to New York (arriving Oct 6), closed bag via New York to Montreal. Carried under the Franco-Swiss Postal Convention effective July 1, 1850. On January 1, 1852 Switzerland joined the Patin Currency Union with the new Swiss rappen (centime) equalling the French centime. Bern was in the second Rayon of Switzerland. The new rate became 135 rappen (centimes) per 7.5g, second rayon via France, GB and USA to Canada. Partial “135” manuscript on reverse. Part of back flap removed from adhesion
